Matthew began teaching while still in his first year of drama school, working for Esta Charkham at West London Drama Training. He quickly developed a strong rapport with young people, initially working as a musical director and acting teacher before going on to direct the school’s large-scale annual musicals.

Alongside his professional career as an actor and filmmaker, Matthew continued working in education as a Teaching Assistant, including extensive work in special schools. Working across different ages and abilities, both in classrooms and one-to-one, gave him valuable experience supporting young people with a wide range of individual needs.

This developed into running extracurricular film, drama and music clubs, and subsequently teaching acting and filmmaking for organisations including 360 Arts, Young Actors Theatre Islington and the Roundhouse, as well as numerous primary and secondary schools and summer programmes across the UK. At Young Actors Theatre Islington, Matthew created and led the Young Actors Film Company for several years.

In 2018, Matthew spent a year in Shenzhen, China, delivering acting and filmmaking workshops and directing youth theatre through a translator. The experience culminated in a full-scale youth production of The Tempest at the Poly Theatre, Shenzhen.

More recently, Matthew has continued combining his professional filmmaking experience with education, teaching acting for screen and producing filmed showreels for young performers at The Attic Theatre School in Nottingham.
